The 2011 Duncan Scare transpired in mid May 2011, following the alleged call of an unidentified caller using a Rick soundboard to a police station in Houston, Texas. The scare, while far from devastating like the 2008 Duncan Scare or Sugar Creek incident, convinced at least half of active YouTube prank callers in the soundboard community to close their accounts, though almost all of these individuals have since returned, and with a rapidity far greater than in prior fallouts.
Some believe the European prank caller BEy0ND to be responsible for the incident, while others are unsure or are opposed to this assessment. Supporters of this view claim the call Rick the Mullet Man Calls A Police Academy is responsible for the police investigation. Detractors have pointed out that the video (later removed and since reuploaded) had debuted on YouTube prior to the Houston FOX News report, which claimed Houston police had yet to see the call made to the unnamed Houston police locality pop up on YouTube. Additionally, BEy0ND's call was made to the Lubbock Police Academy, not one in Houston. As Lubbock and Houston are some 529 miles apart (a nine hour and sixteen minute driving distance), it is unlikely the call is related to the one made to the Houston police locality.
