The Chinaman was originally the victim of two w3baholic prank calls and one by Zarkell. He was first called by The Juggernaut, then by the Black Guy and later by the Hotel Jackass. He has also now been called by Vietman in a new 2011 prank call, also by Zarkell. Due to his extremely thick accent, Chinaman is somewhat difficult to understand.

Since his introduction, he has gone on to be one of the most popular and most used victim soundboards of all time. Prank Caller AntiVenom9808 has stated that the Chinaman is his favorite victim soundboard, as have many others.

Like the "Latin Guy" (who is now believed to be Russian or at the very least East Slavic), a consensus has been gradually formed by listeners on YouTube that "Chinaman" is actually Vietnamese. The first serious evidence in favor of skeptics of his alleged Chinese ancestry arose after several unrelated calls over a period of a year to Vietnamese restaurants and the homes of Vietnamese Americans led to him being called or thought to be Vietnamese by these victims. In one call made by Zarkrell, the Chinaman is called by the Vietman, and they have an argument in Vietnamese after admitting to be from Vietnam. Due to his fame, his name has not been changed nor is it likely to be changed.

It wasn't until over a year later that a new Chinaman soundboard by AntiVenom9808 was made containing all of the new Chinaman Vietnamese phrases.
