eBaum's World

eBaum's World is a for-profit entertainment website founded by Eric "eBaum" Bauman and previously co-owned with his secretary and father, Neil. Since August 2008, it has been owned by the San Francisco, California-based ZVUE Corporation, having been sold to them for $15 million cash and $2.5 million in stock, with further payouts upon performance.[1]

Content Theft ControversyEdit

The site contains a fair amount of soundboards and prank calls and is highly controversial in internet circles, due to much of its content being taken from other sources (such as YTMND, Something Awful, Albino Blacksheep, 4chan, Olde English, Weebl's Stuff and Newgrounds, among others) without permission or attribution and rebranded with the eBaum's World logo.

Eric Bauman, however, has always denied that the site's content is stolen and claims to have honored all requests to remove unauthorized material. But, contrary to his assertions, the practice of content theft and unauthorized rebranding has continued unabated (despite the original creators, in many cases, specifically stating that they do not want their work posted on eBaum's World[2]). This has prompted some of the sites in question to begin watermarking their content as a result.

Legal TroublesEdit

In November 2002, the media giant, Viacom, threatened the site with a lawsuit if soundboards of Judge Judy, as well as soundboards of Dr. Phil, Howard Stern and Tim Meadows were not removed.[3] Ultimately, nothing came of it and the site's collection of them has only grown.

Eric Bauman FiredEdit

On January 31, 2009, Eric Bauman reported that the ZVUE Corporation had fired him and the rest of the staff and replaced them with a new team. Furthermore, Bauman claimed ZVUE is falsely using his name in connection with new material, making it look as if Bauman is still employed.[4]
